Engage with a Community of Practice

Excelencia in Action (E-Action) network, at the program level, is a community of practice that builds common cause among program leaders from Examples of Excelencia. Practitioners engage in small, cohort-based conversations to share and learn about ways to strengthen their efforts, leverage their impact and growth, and reinforce the value of intentionally serving our students. Leaders and their programs are promoted in our research and included in presentations at institutes and conferences. Most of our events are open to all practitioners, but some are intended solely for our previously recognized programs through Examples of Excelencia.

Engagement opportunities for Excelencia in Action (E-Action) network include:

  • Participation in cohort-based conversations, such as Pláticas, to share and learn about ways to strengthen efforts, leverage impact, and reinforce the value of intentionally serving Latino students.
  • Access to webinars to broaden the scope of knowledge surrounding evidence-based practices that accelerate Latino student success.
  • Opportunities to engage in presentations at institutes and conferences and inclusion in research.

"As a professional, the Examples of Excelencia process was beneficial to my growth and truly energized my work. I am so grateful for the connections to other programs and visionary professionals committed to advancing Latino student success and I am honored to now be a part of the Excelencia community."

Julie Carballo, Assistant Dean of Students for First-Generation and Military-Affiliated Initiatives, North Central College

Pláticas

Pláticas are interactive sessions for program leaders to learn and share strategies to engage multiple stakeholders in their programmatic efforts to intentionally SERVE Latino students. Click here to learn about the pláticas we hosted in 2024. Designed with peer-to-peer learning in mind, the conversations take place as roundtable discussions and provide an interactive space for participants to engage and connect with one another. We invite attendees to download and read our Optimizing Your Plática Experience handout, a resource that shares our view on the plática format and how to build a great conversation using confianza, Excelencia’s trust-based approach. Most sessions occur on Wednesdays and are not recorded.
