Why Examples of Excelencia?
We launched Examples of Excelencia in 2005 to bring attention to the many programs and practices across the nation that are making a positive difference for Latino, and all, students in higher education. Through Examples, we identify, aggregate, and promote evidence-based practices increasing Latino student success. We leverage our national platform to build awareness, inform program strategies, and reinforce investment in what works.
Why should program leaders participate in Examples of Excelencia?
- Do you believe that your work needs to be shared with others?
- Are there programs on your campus or organization that you want to bring attention to?
Practitioners who participate in Examples of Excelencia receive support to inventory how they measure and share the impact of their program on Latino participants. Excelencia tools and events related to evidence-based practices working for Latino students give leaders the opportunity to share and learn from others doing similar work. This online portal provides information on how leaders can engage in the process and the benefits of being in community with those who share the common cause of accelerating Latino student success.
What is changing in 2025?
Starting in 2025, Excelencia in Education will prioritize nominations and submissions from institutions in its Presidents for Latino Student Success (P4LSS) network. This year represents a pivotal moment in the commitment of higher education institutions to boldly transform to intentionally SERVE Latino, and all, students. For such a transformation to happen, it is crucial to go deeper within Excelencia in Education’s P4LSS network. Over 200 college and university presidents and chancellors have already enrolled in P4LSS, a diverse group of higher education leaders who have committed to making their institutions learning environments where Latino students thrive.
Who can submit for 2025 Examples of Excelencia?
- Programs from community-based organizations
- Programs from institutions in the Presidents for Latino Student Success (P4LSS) network
- Programs that were previously recognized for Examples of Excelencia in 2022, 2023, or 2024
If your program does not meet the criteria listed above, please contact the Institutional Programs team at Examples@EdExcelencia.org to learn how your institution can enroll in Presidents for Latino Student Success (P4LSS).
What kind of programs can be nominated for the 2025 Examples of Excelencia?
Starting this year, nominations are only accepted for community-based organization programs. If you are aware of a program at a community-based organization that is intentionally serving Latino students, we encourage you to nominate it. Nominating a program, whether you are directly involved in it or you know about it, may help amplify the impact of the work being done in the community that the program serves to a national audience. Please note that a nomination is not a required step to submit a program profile. Nominations for programs at the associate, baccalaureate, and graduate levels are no longer available; program profile submissions from all levels will be accepted from February 18 to April 21, 2025.
